On the programme

The Genoa Traditional Food Tour is a guided food experience designed to introduce guests to the most authentic flavors and culinary traditions of Genoa. The tour lasts approximately 3.5 hours and takes place in the historic city center. The meeting point is at the Neptune Galleon, where the local guide will welcome participants and start the experience.

Groups are made up of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 participants to ensure a relaxed atmosphere and direct interaction with the guide. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, guests will be contacted in advance and offered an alternative date or a full refund.

During the tour, there are at least four food stops. One serving is included at each stop, and the total amount of food equals a full meal or more.

The tastings represent traditional Genoese cuisine and may vary depending on season and product availability. Typical tastings include:

  • Pasta with pesto: Fresh pasta, usually trofie or trenette, served with traditional Genoese pesto made from Ligurian basil, pine nuts, Parmigiano, Pecorino, garlic, and olive oil.
  • Focaccia with cheese (focaccia al formaggio): Two very thin layers of dough filled with soft stracchino cheese and baked until lightly golden, a specialty from the Genoa and Recco area.
  • Fried squid: Fresh squid lightly coated and fried until crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, reflecting Genoa’s maritime tradition.
  • Anchovies: A Ligurian staple, served fried, marinated, or baked with herbs and breadcrumbs, depending on daily availability.
  • Frisceu: Small golden fritters made from a leavened batter enriched with seasonal vegetables or herbs, a classic Genoese street food.
  • Artisan gelato: Small-batch Italian gelato made with fresh milk, seasonal fruit, and local ingredients, served in a selected gelateria.

The tour is designed as a social and immersive experience, combining food tastings with local stories and a walk through Genoa’s narrow historic lanes. Comfortable walking shoes and a good appetite are recommended.
